Bus trip into Leon 30 July 2011

The bus trip into Leon started at 11.30am. We got up a little earlier to buy some bread for the road, interestingly even in Spain most breads are sweetened. Our hotel to the bus station was approximately half an hour walk.
With my 14kg backpack, it was no easy task, but I felt the walk was much easier than when we first started in Zurich. I'm much stronger physically than a month ago. Dominique has become our newest light weight at 10kg for the pack.

Us on the bus!

Our first journey is from San Sebastian to Burgos. It was nice to actually take the bus, because we got to see much more of the country. We realized that each city is in fact surrounded by countrysides. On the journey we passed many sunflower fields. It was beautiful seeing so many sunflowers facing the sun.

There were also wind mills lining the mountains. Well done Spain for harnessing more environmentally friendly energy!

We arrived in Burgos, a city on the path of the Caminos de Santiago, The Way of St James. A traditional route from France through the Pyrenees into Spain to Santigo de Compostela.

The way is marked by clam shells. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of this in Burgos, you will just have to trust me on this one.

Here is the Catherdral of Burgos. They charged 5 euros for entry! We decided not to go inside to visit as we will only be staying for another 20 mins in the town.

Look! More signs indicating WYD 2011!

Another bus ride for two hours later, we arrived in Leon at 6.30pm. I don't understand how it can be, but I actually felt more tired after the bus ride.

This is the river outside the town.

Took us nearly half an hour again to find our accommodation, Hostel St Martin. It is a beautiful and clean hostel, for what we got charged, it was a real bargain as I honestly felt like I stepped into not a hostel but a three star hotel!

Our host spoke not a word of English, I'm so glad now I did some short studies of Spanish, understanding just a couple of words makes a great difference.

Our room, with our own bathroom! Its so spacious!

As usual we quickly got ourselves sorted and headed out to explore!

We found our way to some Paella and Pizza

A cool gadget for cutting pizza!

This is the Cathedral de Leon.

Us at the sculpture outside the cathedral.

More sculptures. In fact, there is a famous museum of modern arts in Leon.

Look, there is countdown for the waiting people too!

Clam shell signage for the Caminos.

Night photos of the cathedral. I've gotten a little better at manual photo taking, thanks to the guidance of our avid photographer. Its pretty amazing how much there is to know about photography, point and shoot auto is actually not that simple!
