Genoa, UNESCO heritage 30 Aug 2011

We took the morning train to Genoa and this was much of the view as we traveled along the French Riviera.

I was startled at the difference in the passengers that comes on board.
In Italy the people are more noisy and talks a lot more than the travelers in France. I could hear many interesting conversations floating through the train carrier, some in Italian, some in French.
We traveled to Genoa, a beautiful city that boast a golden mine of world heritage sites.
There was a slight mix up of train stations and we got off in the old town whilst our hotel was in the new town. With assistance from the tourism office we managed to take a bus close to our accommodation. In Genoa the bus tickets are charged per 100 mins, this means a ticket can be reused as many times as you like within 100mins.

After dropping off our luggage we took a walk around the old town. Famous for all the UNESCO sites.

This is a modern fountain, it is quite spectacular as the fountain all shoots upwards.

We went to a British pub for some lunch.

Via Garibaldi is the most famous and most beautiful street in the old town. On this street there are many tlarge houses/palace previously owned by aristocrats and now converted to offices, apartments and museum.

Strada Nuova is a museum that combines Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi. The museum is lovely and spacious, there are many italian art on display.

Most of the works were unknown to me but I taken photos on the ones I enjoyed.

Look at this beautiful chandelier.

We were allowed up to the roof to see a panoramic view of Genoa.

More art work.

This the famous 'Cannone' Violin.

By the time we finished at museum it was evening. We only managed to visit the outside of the Cathedral.

That evening we visited the Port. There was a very nice festival at there and we managed to visit a lovely Spaghetti stall for some dinner.
