On the train I met a lovely German lady who lives in Milan, she offered to show us around Milan when we pass by. She was just having a day off so she decided to take the train to the beach for a day away. What a terrific way to live life!
We are staying on one of the towns called Riomaggiore. Everything is on a hill and covered with slopes and steps. Our hostel is no different, it is up two flights of long stairs.
This is the view out our room window!
This is our hostel dormitory.
There is a hiking trail that links all the town that weaves along the coastline. For a two day ticket that includes unlimited train rides between the towns is 19 euros.
At the recommendation of the lady at the hostel we ate at a Cliffside bar with breathtaking view.
Our lunch.
We decided to walk along to the next two towns, the first is Manarola. This was an easy 20mins walk along the coast called the Lover's walk.
Manarola town.
The next town's coastal walk was closed so we had to go around by traveling up the hill to Volastra, the vineyards and orchards area then down into Cornigila.
The second walk took us nearly three hours. It was quite a strenuous climb up with narrow paths. A section of the paths winds along cliffsides without any handrails. I was quite terrified at a few points when the path actually broke a bit and I needed to navigate around narrow ledges.
I tried a grape from the vines as we walked by and it was very sweet, I can imagine how wonderful the wine wine in Cinque Terre must be.
That evening we took a train back to Riomaggiore and had dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was only natural we ordered some Cinque Terre wine to go with our meal. As predicted, it was lovely, sweet and refreshing.
