We booked the Big Bus Tour, one of those hop on hop off double decker buses that you can often see in movies.
This bus company was recommended by the bar maid where we had dinner last night. I think it was an excellent recommendation as the tour was fun and we got to see a lot of local attractions without needing to worry about transport to and from each site.
There was live commentary on the red line bus. This was our guide, Kat.
She was very entertaining with lots of information delivered in a light and fun way.
We even got to see the window where Michael Jackson once held the baby out!
There was so many interesting things we found out on the trip, I think this hop on hop off is very good if you are traveling by yourself in an unfamiliar city. I don't think we could have seen such a large part of the city without the tour. Unfortunately we simply did not have enough time to hop off to see all the places in London. Next time I visited, I've got a couple of place I'll love to visit like the tour of the Tower of London, the London Dungeon and St Paul's cathedral.
Trafalgar Square
The London Eye, you can see Big Ben behind it!
Big Ben and parliament house
One of those guarding Dragon of London
St Paul's Cathedral
Side Entrance to the Buckingham Palace, this is not used by public but is the entrance which the queen uses. Apparently she doesn't exit out of the main front gates very often except for official ceremonies. Also, we found out she is the only person in UK who can have a car without a license plate!
After our sightseeing we hopped off to have some of UK's famous fish and chips. Perhaps my expectation is too high? I was not overly impressed. I like our snappers better.
Oh, nearly forgot about the Cornish pastie we ate for breakfast. Essentially a Pie with a thick crust designed for holding!
We actually ended up at Oxford Circus to meet up with Jess, I think Oxford Circus feels a bit like Causeway Bay in HK. We were there to help out Jess with moving some bags home.
This little experience tells us it is in fact very difficult to move houses in London just simply by traveling on the tube. Oh, I forgot to mention that the tube can be very confusing. I'm so glad I downloaded a London Tube app before getting here as it has saved us a lot of time. Figuring out the tube by yourself is definitely not fun.
Everything was eventual dropped off at home, there was some trial since one of the bags broke and it was raining. With a bit of kiwi ingenuity and rain ponchos we finally got everything home.
To reward ourselves we headed out to China Town for dinner. Nothing like home cuisine ease any homesickness.
Coincidentally many of the shops had similar names to the ones in Auckland, we had lots of fun making some comparisons of the different food that was served. In the end we couldn't find the place recommended to us, so we chose a roast duck place. Perhaps it's the feed of the duck, but strangely we both felt that the duck in New Zealand will be a lot more flavorful.
On our way home, inside the tube station was this busker
Terrific set up and of cos, singing Bruno Mars very well! The sesame street character actually plays the drum beat! I bet this guy makes a lot doing this for a couple of hours each day.
